The nephew brought us here for dinner as it was not only near our hotel but he said it is 1 of his favorites restaurants for good delicious meals at reasonable prices. The nephew had sense enough to ask for a table inside where the AC was working hard. He said the weather has been good this week, that it has been unusually cooler and that we are blessed with better weather while we are here. I chuckled and said still feels pretty hot to this California boy. He suggested ordering the chili crab as that is a Singaporean staple. Of course I deferred to him to order for us as he is the local and knew what the specialties are. The girlfriend said none of the items were particularly spicy. I said it is because he told the server in Chinese to take it easy because the "white girl" can't take the heat lol

Visit Sin Hoi Sai eating house for amazing Chinese food!!!! Highly recommend getting their fried prawns and fish!!!! Both the prawns and fish are fried to perfection and seasoned so well!!! The chilies also add an extra kick and more flavour to the prawns!!!! This place is known for seafood but also serves amazing meat dishes as well!!! Their fried chicken is delicious and the tofu with minced pork is extremely flavourful!!!! Their Chinese food is amazing, authentic and definitely worth trying!!!!!! They also serve the very popular Singapore drink iced jelly, which is also worth a try!!!!

Being a Joo Chiat local this little gem is a treat whenever guests come to town. I say a treat, because it can be spendy-per-pax if you choose the good dishes. Having said that, I've been a handful of times this year, and each visit has left me smiling and satisfied. The servings come in small, medium and large, and they are quite large, so unless you are a big eater you'll want to curb your enthusiasm and select small and medium dishes - especially if you plan on trying a lot. Stick to what Sin Hoi Sai excel in - Baby Kailan, Sambal Stingray, and the secret menu Red Wine Pork Ribs - all washed down with a longneck of Heineken or Tiger. You may be tempted to smash up the Marmite Chicken or Guinness Pork Ribs, but although interesting and quirky, they aren't fantastic so I'd suggest going the small portion for these.

Sin Hoi Sai Eating House - If I lived anywhere closer to the East, I am guessing I would be here a lot more than I'd be willing to admit. In a tight group of 8 friends, 7 of them live pretty close to Sin Hoi, and these 7 congregate here for dinner at least 2-3 times a week. On the few occassions I've been here, service has been excellent, also in part due to the fact that my friends are regulars. They swiftly take your order for beverages, leave, bring them to your table and collect your food orders while they are at it. On weekends this place does get crowded, so avoid peak dinner timings, or be prepared to wait for a table and for your food orders to be served. We have a few favourites, I'll list them out - do be certain to give them a try! We love going for their sambal char siew fried rice, prepared with an adequate amount of spice and served in a portion good for 1 person. We swear by their Indonesian chicken dish, a slightly tangy crispy chicken dish where the fried chicken is glazed with a light, spicy gravy and onions. Being chicken fans, we almost always have to have their hot plate chilli ginger chicken as well - a bowl of it dropped right on to the hot plate at your table so it's sizzling and all the more enjoyable when had with the fried rice. The few other favourites include their baby kailan in oyster sauce, crispy noodles, fried salad you tiao, sambal kang kong and prawn paste chicken. Their menu is expansive, and I wouldn't say that the food here is inexpensive, but given it's prime location and good quality, you pay for what you get. (I spend an average of $10 - 15 here including soft drinks and food shared with about 4-5 friends). I would definitely have to come back here many more times to try everything else on their menu. Lucky I have friends who are regulars.

Having supper here is always the best way to cap a night of partying off. The explosion of tastes from the awesome Sambal Beef Fried Rice is always a good way to wake yourself up from that drunken night that almost ended with you in an alcohol coma. A plate of prawn paste chicken on the side should help with that burnt tongue from the sambal. Yup, do beware. It's spicy! The operating hours are from 5pm to 4am however, they do start washing the place at about 345am so try to get there and place your orders by 330am. There are lots of parking lots within walking distance at Chapel Road, Chapel Close, Cheow Keng Road or Lor Stangee however, it can get quite busy at dinner time because of the many restaurants in the vicinity. Late nights, are never a problem. I'm there at least 3 times a week and I really hope to bump into you folk soon. See ya!
